Missed-Call Text-Back with AI for Plumbers
A missed-call text-back sends an automatic text to anyone whose call you couldn't answer, telling them you got their call and asking what they need. For plumbers, use AI to write the message (prompt below), then turn on the auto-text feature in your phone system or business texting app, if it has one.
Write 3 options for an automatic text a plumbing company sends when it misses a call. Under 200 characters each. Company: [COMPANY]. We usually call back within [TIMEFRAME]. For emergencies like a burst pipe or no water, callers should [WHAT TO DO, e.g. call again / call this number]. Ask them to reply with a quick description of the problem and their address or neighborhood. Plain and calm. End with "Reply STOP to opt out." Don't promise a specific arrival time.
Set it up
- Pick the message you like and trim it to fit how your shop really works.
- Look in your business phone, VoIP, or field-service app settings for an auto-reply or missed-call text option. Many offer one; names vary.
- If yours doesn't, save the text as a quick-reply template and send it by hand when you see a missed call.
- Call back when you said you would. The text only buys you time.
- Once a week, check replies you missed and tweak the wording.
Bonus: triage the replies
Here are text replies from people whose calls we missed: [PASTE REPLIES]. Sort them into: emergency, needs a quote, existing customer question, not a fit. For each, give a one-line summary and the order I should call them back.
Texting rule: only text people who gave you their number and agreed to hear from you (for example, they asked for a quote or booked a job). Honor STOP right away. When in doubt, email or call. General information, not legal advice.
